- Sponsored sound
- A song or audio clip that an artist, label or brand pays creators to use in their videos. On Sound.me the advertiser pastes a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube link to the sound and creators make short videos with it.
- UGC (user-generated content)
- Videos made by everyday creators on their own accounts rather than by a brand or studio. Sound.me campaigns produce UGC on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
- Creator campaign
- A paid campaign in which many creators each make a short video with the same sound or product. On Sound.me you set the budget, run time, targeting and directions at checkout.
- Open brief (creative freedom)
- Directions that let creators make the video their own way, without strict rules. It is the most popular brief on Sound.me and fills fastest, so your budget reaches more creators in less time.
- Lip sync
- A video where the creator moves their lips in time with a song, dialogue or audio clip.
- Dance (copy a dance)
- Recreating choreography from another creator's video. A complex dance can take creators longer to post.
- Transition
- A video that switches smoothly between scenes or actions, often with creative editing.
- Text on screen
- Written words added directly onto the video, like captions or messages.
- Creator size tiers
- Groups of creators by follower count. On Sound.me you pick Volume (more creators, wider reach), Larger creators (bigger audiences) or your own range from 100 followers to over 50 million.
- Organic views
- Views a video earns on its own, from the feed and the creator's followers, without ad spend behind it. Sound.me creators have earned 181B+ organic views.
- 72-hour earnings window
- The first 72 hours after a creator posts an approved video. Sound.me creators are paid for each approved video based on the views it gets in this window; the calculation stops after it.
- Quality control
- Sound.me's review of every video: the team watches each one and checks it follows the advertiser's directions and Sound.me's guidelines. Videos that don't aren't paid, and that budget goes back into the campaign.
- Self-approval
- Choosing yourself which creators join your campaign. Sound.me's team matches and approves creators; on TikTok campaigns of $1,000 or more you can also approve creators yourself.
- Run time
- How long a campaign stays open to creators. On Sound.me: 72 hours, 7 days or 14 days.
- Flash sale
- Sound.me's first-campaign offer: $100 for a first campaign in the 48 hours after sign-up.
- Cost per 1,000 views (CPM)
- Budget divided by views, times 1,000, a way to compare kinds of promotion. A worldwide, 7-day $1,000 Sound.me campaign projected at about 524,000 views works out to about $1.91 per 1,000 views (projection measured on TikTok campaigns).
- Spark Ads
- A TikTok ad format that runs an existing organic post, your own or a creator's with their permission, as a paid ad. Sound.me campaigns are organic creator posts, not ads.
- TikTok Creator Rewards Program
- TikTok's own program that pays eligible creators for qualified views on original videos over 1 minute long. TikTok requires creators to be at least 18, with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, in eligible countries; ads, paid promotions and sponsored content don't qualify.
- PayPal Goods and Services
- The PayPal payment type Sound.me uses for creator payouts. PayPal charges a small fee per transaction. Creators cash out via PayPal from a $5 balance.
- 45-day rule
- Creators keep sponsored videos up for at least 45 days from posting. If a post comes down earlier, the advertiser can contact Sound.me for a replacement.
